Health vaccines and their associated compliance listings are based on state guidelines. The following information describes vaccine compliance rules as defined by the Montana Department of Health.

General Compliance

  • Half-doses or reduced doses of a vaccine are not considered valid.
  • 4 day tolerance periods should be given for all spacing requirements.

DTaP

Note: DTaP rules track the initial series of the vaccine, while Tdap tracks the booster doses. Students must be compliant for both DTaP and Tdap.

Compliant
Students are considered compliant when:
  • The student receives four doses of the DT or DTaP/DTP vaccine.
  • The difference between the last dose and the student's birthdate is greater than or equal to 48 months with a 4-day tolerance. 
4 doses PK
Compliant
Students are considered compliant when:
  • The student is in state grade PK: Prekindergarten.
  • The student receives four doses of the DT or DTaP/DTP vaccine.
Age 7 and older: 3 doses
Compliant

Students are considered compliant when:

  • The student is at least 84 months old.
  • The student receives three doses of the DT, DTaP/DTP, Td, or Tdap vaccine.
    • The difference between the first dose and the student's birthdate is greater than or equal to 12 months with a 4-day tolerance.
  • The student receives one dose of the Td or Tdap vaccine.
    • The difference between the first dose and the student's birthdate is greater than or equal to 84 months with a 4-day tolerance. 
Age 7 and older: 4 doses
Compliant

Students are considered compliant when:

  • The student receives four doses of the DT, DTaP/DTP, Td, or Tdap vaccine.
  • The student receives one dose of the Td or Tdap vaccine.
    • The difference between the first dose and the student's birthdate is greater than or equal to 84 months with a 4-day tolerance. 

Polio

  • The student receives three doses of the IPV, OPV, or IPV/OPV vaccine.

Students are considered compliant when:
  • The student receives three doses of the IPV, OPV, or IPV/OPV vaccine.
  • The difference between the last dose and the student's birthdate is greater than or equal to 48 months with a 4-day tolerance.
  • The difference between the third and previous dose is greater than or equal to 28 days with a 4-day tolerance.
  • The difference between the second and previous dose is greater than or equal to 28 days with a 4-day tolerance.

Students are considered compliant when:
  • The student is in state grade PK: Prekindergarten.
  • The student receives one dose of the Measles vaccine.
    • The difference between the first dose and the student's birthdates is greater than or equal to 12 months with a 4-day tolerance. 
  • The student receives one dose of the Mumps vaccine.
    • The difference between the first dose and the student's birthdates is greater than or equal to 12 months with a 4-day tolerance. 
  • The student receives one dose of the Rubella vaccine.
    • The difference between the first dose and the student's birthdates is greater than or equal to 12 months with a 4-day tolerance.

Students are considered compliant when:
  • The student receives one dose of the MMR or MMRV vaccine.

Varicella

  • The student is at least 12 months old.
  • The student receives two doses of the Varicella or MMRV vaccine.
  • The difference between the first dose and the student's birthdate is greater than or equal to 12 months with a 4-day tolerance.
  • The difference between the second and previous dose is greater than or equal to 28 days with a 4-day tolerance.

  • The student is in state grades 07, 08, 09, 10, 11, 12.
  • The student receives 1 dose of the Tdap vaccine.
  • The difference between the last dose and the student's birthdate is greater than or equal to 84 months, with a 4-day tolerance.
