Tool Search: Homeless

The Homeless tool records basic information about homeless students. The list of homeless records is sorted by Start Date. The following outlines the data fields specific to the state of North Dakota. Refer to the core Homeless article for details on the necessary tool rights and guidance on adding/printing Homeless records.

  • Homeless records cannot have overlapping dates.
  • Use the Federal/State Program Updater tool to import Homeless records or update records for multiple students.

Create a Homeless Record

  1. Select the New icon. The Homeless Detail editor displays.
  2. Enter the Start Date for this student becoming homeless. 
  3. Select the appropriate option for the Primary Nighttime Residence option. 
  4. Select the appropriate option Unaccompanied Youth - either Yes or No. 
  5. Mark the Homeless Served checkbox when the student is being served by a Homeless program.
  6. Mark the Disaster Displacement checkbox if the student was displaced due to disaster-affected housing.
  7. Mark the McKinney-Vento Funds checkbox when the student is being served by a program funded under the McKinney-Vento Act.
  8. Mark the Family Requests No Services checkbox if the family has indicated that they do not want services.
  9. Enter additional information in the Comments fields as appropriate.

Homeless Field Descriptions

Start Date
(Required)
Indicates the date the student was identified as being Homeless.

End Date Indicates the date the student was considered no longer homeless.

This field is optional and is used when the student obtains permanent housing, graduates early, or withdraws from the district.

Primary Night Time Residence

Indicates the student's living situation at the time the student was identified as Homeless.

  • SH: Shelters/Transitional Housing
  • DU: Doubled Up
  • HM: Hotels/Motels
  • NOALT: Lack of Alternative Options
  • OTH: Unsheltered/OTH

Unaccompanied Youth

Indicates the student is experiencing homelessness and is not in the physical custody of a parent or guardian.
  • N: No
  • Y: Yes
