Section 504 (California)

Tool Search: Section 504

Section 504 refers to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (29 U.S.C. § 701), which protects individuals with disabilities from discrimination in education, programs, activities, employment, etc. Section 504 prohibitions against discrimination apply to service availability, accessibility, delivery, employment, and the administrative activities and responsibilities of organizations receiving Federal financial assistance. The definition of "individuals with disabilities" under Section 504 is broader than the definition of disability for IEPs and the IEP governing process.

The Section 504 tool enables staff to record students' start and end dates for participation in the Section 504 program. Staff can then print a Summary Report of the Section 504 information. The Section 504 Detail information provided below is specific to California.

See the core Section 504 article for additional information.
