Progress (Academic Planning)

Tool Search: Progress

Academic Planning Progress is a read-only tool that displays a color-coded grid showing a student’s progress toward completion of requirements for a Graduation Program or Academic Program (formerly CTE).

For Academic Programs, a list of test requirements and course requirements display.

This is a Read Only tool. Users only need R (Read) rights to use it.

How Student Progress Is Calculated

  • Totals column totals credits earned, in progress, or planned
    • left number = credits earned/in progress/planned
    • right number = credits required
  • In Progress = currently enrolled, course not finished
  • Scheduled = course scheduled later in the current year; becomes In Progress once started
  • Planned = future courses from the Course Plan tool
  • Credits earned in earlier grade levels (including middle school) display if they count toward the program

Program Display

The main view of the Progress tool shows the student's requirements for their assigned academic program. If a student does not have an assigned program, the tool still displays but no information is available.

  • Main view displays progress for the assigned program
  • To view progress toward other programs, select from the droplist
  • Viewing progress towards another program does not change the student’s official program
  • Use the Programs (Academic Planning) tool to manage the student's program assignments

Credit Status

The Credit Status column breaks down the credits for that credit type into earned (ER) credits, in-progress (IP) credits, and planned (PL) credits, providing a subtotal of the student's credits.

The Credit Status columns indicate the following for each credit type:

  • ER (Earned) – completed and posted to transcript
  • IP (In Progress) – current or scheduled courses in this school year
  • PL (Planned) – future planned courses

Totals appear only when at least one of these values exists.

  • Green - credit requirements met
  • Red - credit requirements not met

Credit Type Detail

Screenshot of credit type detail information.Credit Type Detail Information
  • Expanding a credit type shows each course with a status:
    • Earned - final grade has been posted
    • In Progress - student's current score in a course for which the final grade has not been posted
    • Scheduled - course is on the student's schedule but has not started yet
    • Planned - course is on the student's plan but has not been scheduled yet
  • Courses display in grade‑level order
  • Courses with multiple grading tasks appear multiple times
  • In‑progress courses show score and percent

Credit Type/Grade Color Coding

Orange color coding is used to indicate that the student has a failing In-Progress grade for a course within the aligned credit type and grade level. Red color coding indicates a failing posted/final grade. If both exist within the same Credit Type/Grade, the cell will be coded orange.

Color Indicates
Orange Credit Types for which a failing In-Progress grade exists display in orange.
  • When the credit type is expanded, Score and Percent for the failing In-Progress grade also display in orange text.
  • If a course within the credit type has a posted failing score while another course within the credit type has a failing In-Progress grade, the color coding remains orange. Since it is not possible to display both red and orange in a cell, orange displays for the In-Progress grade as it is not yet posted and it is possible the student may still be able to pass the course.
  • If a failing In-Progress grade exists, Credit Towards Academic Program displays the full credit value associated with the grading task.
Red No failing In-Progress Grade. A Failing posted grade exists within the credit type.

Program Criteria

The Progress screen contains a section named Program Criteria that may include Credit Requirements, Course Requirements, Test Requirements, and GPA Requirements. Progress toward completion of the Academic Plan can be highlighted as follows.

  • Green – requirement met or exceeded
  • Red – requirement not met
  • Yellow – credit overflow from another credit type
  • Orange – failing grade in an in‑progress course
