Wisconsin has defined unique fields that are specific to Wisconsin. Further information on these fields is described below. For information on all other fields, please see the Homeless article.

Homeless records may NOT overlap. Be sure Start and End Dates do NOT overlap.

Primary Night Time Residence

Homeless Primary Nighttime Residence Type denotes the kind of impermanent housing, or lack of housing, where the homeless student stays at night. This value is a required field for homeless children and youth as individuals who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence.

Student's Primary Night Time Residence has yet to be determined. Student's record is excluded from state reporting until this value is known.
01Shelters and transitional housing
Temporary accommodation for homeless individuals and families, as a step to permanent housing. Residents of transitional housing are considered homeless until they move into permanent housing. Transitional housing programs may last up to 24 months, provide housing in addition to wraparound services, and typically require participants to pay a portion of their housing costs based on a sliding scale.
02Doubled-up
This means sharing the housing of other persons due to economic hardship, loss of housing, or similar reasons.
03Hotels/MotelChildren, youth, and unaccompanied youth who are temporarily living in hotels and motels
04Unsheltered
Children, youth, or unaccompanied youth who live in abandoned buildings or apartments, bus and train stations, campgrounds, cars, parks, public spaces, trailer parks, children abandoned in hospitals, and children and youth who live in **substandard or inadequate housing. Unsheltered includes children and youth who are living in substandard or inadequate housing, including trailer homes that are "inadequate." These housing situations do not easily fit into any category and are judged on a case-by-case basis by the district homeless liaison.

Notes:

Users may not save a Homeless record for a student if the Primary Night Time Residence is not populated. If a student's Night Time Residence is currently unknown, select 00: Unknown - do not send record to WISE. This allows the user to create a record for the student while the residence status is pending.

Unaccompanied Youth

Homeless Unaccompanied Youth states whether or not homeless children or youth are in physical custody of a parent or legal guardian. This value is a required field for homeless children and youth as individuals who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence.

Homeless Served

The Homeless Served checkbox indicates a student has received services from the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act Subgrant.

 

Homeless Served is no longer used for state reporting and is only used for district-tracking purposes.
